1946年に発表されたNV46は、フィン・ユールが自身のデザイン哲学を形にし始めた初期の代表作です。

後に発表されるNV45やNV53へと受け継がれていく、有機的な曲線や”浮遊する座面”という発想がすでに見られ、フィン・ユールのデザインの原点を感じられる重要なモデルとして知られています。

NV46は、後に世界的な名作となるNV45やNV53へと続く物語の始まりとも言える存在です。まだ試行錯誤の段階でありながら、彫刻のように削り出されたアームラインや、木部と座面を独立して見せる軽やかな構成には、フィン・ユールが生涯追い続けた「家具は人体を包み込む彫刻である」という思想がすでに息づいています。

最大の特徴は、背もたれと座面が木製フレームから独立して浮かんでいるように見える構成です。後脚から滑らかに立ち上がるアームは、無駄な直線を極力排し、まるで人体の骨格のような自然な曲線で描かれています。
