Carl Malmstenの家具には、“北欧の民藝”とも呼びたくなる温度があります。
コーア・クリントやデンマーク・モダンが機能と構造の美を磨き上げたのに対し、マルムステンはもっと人間的で、牧歌的。スウェーデンの森や暮らしの気配を、そのまま家具へ写し取ったようなデザインを得意としました。

“VISINGSÖ”シリーズも、その思想がよく表れた一作。
一見すると素朴なスツールですが、角を丸く削った座面や、わずかにテーパーした脚部のラインには、静かな緊張感があります。特にパイン材特有の柔らかな木肌と節の表情は、工業製品というより “生活の道具” としての親密さを感じさせてくれる。

また、このスツールの魅力は用途を限定しないところ。
腰掛けとしてはもちろん、サイドテーブルや植物台として置いても成立する。空間に余白をつくりながら、どこか北欧の空気だけを持ち込んでくれるような存在です。

無垢のパイン材は、使い込むほどに飴色へと変化し、傷さえも風景になっていく。
