1947年、ヘルシンキの学生寮《Domus Academica》のためにデザインされた、イルマリ・タピオヴァーラの “Domus” シリーズ。
こちらは、その中でも現存数の少ない Domus Table です。

Domus Chair は現在でも広く知られていますが、テーブルは別格。
学生寮やコントラクト用途として製造された後、1955年頃に生産が Asko 社へ移るまでの限られた期間のみ生産されていたとされ、市場でもなかなか見る機会の少ないモデルです。

無駄を削ぎ落とした長方形の天板に、細く先細りする脚部。
装飾ではなく、構造そのものの美しさで成立している。
戦後フィンランドデザイン特有の、実用と静けさが同居した佇まいです。

素材にはバーチ材を使用。
使い込まれた木肌には、学生寮という公共空間で過ごした時間が静かに刻まれています。

派手さはありません。
けれど、空間に置いた時にわかる“重心の正しさ”があります。
