デンマーク生活協同組合〈FDB Møbler〉で多くの名作を残した、ポール・M・ヴォルターによる “J61”。

FDBの家具に共通するのは、“特別な人のため”ではなく、“日常のため”に設計されていること。
このJ61もまた、華美な装飾とは距離を置きながら、毎日の暮らしの中でじわじわと良さが滲み出る椅子です。

少し高めに設定された背もたれ。
身体を自然に受け止める絶妙な角度。
食事をする、会話をする、長く座る。そういった日常動作がとても静かに整えられています。

また、ヴォルターらしいのが、この“線の細さ”。
必要十分な構造だけで組み上げられているのに、不思議と頼りなさはなく、むしろ空間に軽やかな余白をつくってくれる。

ウェグナーやモーエンセンほど語られる機会は多くありませんが、FDBという公共性の高い思想の中で磨かれたデザインには、北欧家具の本質的な美しさがあります。
