1950年代、イルマリ・タピオヴァーラによって誕生した「マドモアゼル」。その名の通り、背筋をすっと伸ばして座る若き淑女のような凛とした佇まいは、フィンランド・モダニズムが辿り着いた、ひとつの詩的な完成形と言えます。

ベースにあるのは、北欧の古い農家に伝わるウィンザーチェアという伝統。それをタピオヴァーラは、装飾を徹底的に削ぎ落とした現代の言葉へと翻訳しました。バーチ材を用い、放射状に美しく広がる繊細なスポークが、空間に知的なリズムと美しい影を落とし、ただそこにあるだけで、部屋の空気に静かな秩序が生まれます。
