イルマリ・タピオヴァーラというデザイナーの凄みは、椅子という概念を「思考の最小単位」まで解体し、再構築してみせるその潔さにある。

フィンランドのKylmäkoski社で製造されたこの三本脚のスツールは、まさにその哲学が最も純粋な形で立ち上がったプロダクトだ。円形の座面を支える三角形のフレーム構造。そこには、幾何学的な合理性と、バーチ材という柔らかな素材が持つ温もりが、一分の隙もなく同居している。

特筆すべきは、年月を経てペイントの奥から覗くバーチの素地や、随所に刻まれた擦れの表情だ。それらは単なる経年変化ではなく、このスツールが数十年にわたって誰かの居場所を支え、生活の道具として全うしてきたという、確かな「時間の記録」に他ならない。
