名作を「縮小」するという行為には、得てして妥協が伴うものだが、アルネ・ヤコブセンにその理屈は通用しない。1950年代、彼が提唱したトータルデザインの思想において、子供のための椅子『model.3123』は、大人のそれと等価な知性と構造美を与えられたプロダクトです。

通称「Tチェア（またはハンマーチェア）」と呼ばれるこのフォルムは、ヤコブセンが追求した成形合板による「引き算の美学」のひとつの到達点。極限まで削ぎ落とされた背もたれのラインは、空間に鮮烈なグラフィックを描き、単なる子供用家具という枠を超えた彫刻的な佇まいを見せてくれます。
