1953年、コペンハーゲン・キャビネットメーカーズ・ギルド展のためにデザインされたNV53。

“NV”とは製作を担った名工 Niels Vodder の頭文字であり、当時フィン・ユールと最も密接に仕事をしたキャビネットメーカーの名前がそのままモデル名になっています。

この椅子で注目したいのは、フィン・ユールを象徴する「支える構造」と「支えられる構造」の分離というデザイン思想です。

木部のフレームは座面を包み込むように存在しながら、張地はまるで宙に浮いているかのように見える。構造を隠すのではなく、美しさへと昇華させたフィン・ユールならではの表現です。

特に後脚からアームへと一本の線でつながる有機的なラインは、家具というより彫刻作品のような存在感を放ちます。どの角度から眺めても表情が変わり、空間の中央に置いても絵になる一脚です。

また、この個体はローズウッドを使用したヴィンテージモデル。現在ではワシントン条約の影響もあり、新たに同等のローズウッド材を用いた製作は極めて難しく、オリジナルならではの深い色艶と木目も大きな魅力です。

座った瞬間の柔らかなホールド感と、立ち上がったあとも思わず振り返ってしまう造形美。

「座るための家具」であると同時に、「眺めるための家具」でもある──それがNV53の最大の魅力です。
